From 14-17 August I was invited by Sannox Christian Centre to show some of my glass works in their beautifully restored chapel on the isle of Arran. I loaded the car and we got the Caledonian Isles ferry across from Ardrossan to Brodick. We were accompanied by dolphins and various sea birds on the hour journey.

It was a rare privilege to curate the space with my own work and bring colour to the calm white space.

Upper panel – tribute to James Hutton and his famous line of unconformity at Siccar Point, near Dunbar. It’s well worth a visit this year in the tri-centenery of his birth (1726)

Lower panel – Wivenhoe Park Memorial Window, a lament for land lost to development in the place we used to live in Essex – Constable Country.

The Power Of Bees – meditation on the question: whose power is greater, the humble bee or the might of Sizewell B nuclear reactor in Suffolk? I favour the bee.

The Concrete Window – what happens when the supply of sand runs out for producing more concrete? It could by 2050 at the current rate of over-production. Man does his best to spoil the earth but God has built in a wily resilience in nature…

Michael came to visit and brought with him his own very positive tattoo art – look for words like Dedicated, Respectful, Motivational, Disciplined, Resilient, Loyal…Michael had been a soldier and we had a long conversation about the challenges of living as believers in a troubled modern society.

Sannox beach nearby offered space to relax and remember why we were there – we always feel God’s presence is very near.
